about

H₂O No!'s debut album 'fuck around and find out' is an homage to the State College Asylum-era punk diy scene. The majority of these songs were written during the Fall of 2020 and Spring of 2021. As they performed at house and Webster's shows throughout Spring 2022, H₂O No! crafted their signature sound within the scene: crushing-distortion + delayed bass, talk-sung + throat-shredding vocals, and impeccably trad-gripped + earsplitting drum performances. These songs were slowly refined as H₂O No!'s live shows became more unhinged (highlights include the mosh-pit breaking the floor at Chump's + cops busting the band's first-ever set that pushed 30 min).

It's difficult to live in a college town full of boring upper-middle class white people who would suck dick to defend their platitude-laced university that is plagued by conservative administrators. 'fuck around and find out' is the anthem for the diy music scene's seemingly hopeless, yet endlessly unrelenting retaliation against crusty old white people who yearn to instill Christian fundamentalism and abhorrent capitalist practices in our institutions ("never trust," "fucking me over," "fuck off," i dont wanna be young," "insomniac", "stay out!").

"sword fight" is a performative highlight, as The Willard Building's guitarist Ryan Keating joins H₂O No! for a rapid-tempo protest song, culminating in an exhilarating guitar solo that blacks out from adrenaline by the end. "sword fight" functions as a euphemism for a dick-measuring contest, and pokes fun at elitist politicians who put all of their efforts into electoral politics instead of serving the struggling working class that voted for them.

fan favorite "interests of a cockroach" is a 90-second rager where lyricist Brody McElwain takes on the perspective of a cockroach in an effort to perceive his own mortality and life's purpose. Will we die peacefully or violently? Do our lives have any more meaning than an ugly, seemingly useless insect that emotes fear and disgust to those who encounter it? Or are we simply kidding ourselves...

"Johnny Fly" maintains that H₂O No! don't take themselves too seriously, as the song explores cartoonish character- and world-building through associated artwork and music videos (OG fans may also recall "Jimmy Bean" and "Danny Rock Cock").
